Seismic Upgrade
Memorial Hospital of Gardena was faced with upgrading its facility to meet current seismic regulations. A traditional structural solution would have disrupted hospital operations for a significant time, thus the solution was to build the structure outside the existing hospital. The project will cost less than an internal solution without the disruption and loss of revenue. The added benefit is a new public face to the hospital that updates a fifty year old facility. The seismic bracing system is used to form the structure of a new lobby entry that uses natural light to welcomes patients to the hospital.
