The SJHS Board Room was a terrific design challenge.  Working within an existing high-rise with a very low floor-to-floor height was difficult.  Our first challenge was to design a very large room that had only a few places where the ceiling could be raised as high at 9’6″.  As you can see from the photographs, through the use of soffiting, lighting and colors, the room is broken down to a comfortable scale.

The second design challenge was to design a table that could sit 22 for board meetings but over 40 for other meetings without compromising video conferencing.  We designed a custom table, working closely with the fabricator and three other trades in its construction.  We incorporated backlit “Living Glass” that helps reduce the scale of what would otherwise be a huge table.

The third challenge was to integrate state-of-the-art technology for video conferencing, communications, voice enhancement, computers and presentations and lighting seamlessly into the space without the technology taking over the space.  While technology is everywhere, it is all hidden allowing the space to take on a corporate character appropriate to the Saint Joseph Health System.
